Hoping Against Hope

While I didn't buy this exact model, I have had a total of three Roombas in about 3 years. Unfortunately, I don't have any one of them anymore. I really had high hopes that Roombas would work well.
I bought an original Roomba 3 years ago and it did a good job. However, after about 6 months it stopped working. I spoke with a Roomba represenative at a home show and she agreed to replace it. While the second one worked okay for a few months, a plastic part broke off and I never used it again. I recently gave it away to some guy through craigslist who repairs Roombas.
The last one I just returned to iRobot after 2-3 days, because it wasn't doing a good job of picking up things off the carpet or the linoleum floor. While I don't expect it to get every crumb, the job it did was quite sad. I also found that the dust tray was falling off easily. That was the last straw for me. So back it went.

I just bought a Roomba Red Robotic Vacuum from the US' iRobot Corp. then brought it to another country and plugged and taped it into a 110v automatic voltage regulator and surge protector that I use my computer on. It charged properly for the first 16 hours (per the charging instructions) then I used it to vacuum my floor. I charged it a 2nd time but I noticed that the battery charging light wasn't on. I talked to their online chat help and was told [...] that it was designed to work ONLY on US current (as if people still use ships to travel from country to country with trips lasting weeks if not months). They said their product was too complex and sensitive for other countries' electricity. Sure. [...]

I've owned my Roomba for almost two years now. I had problems initially with the battery discharging quickly. I called the 800 number and the manufacturer had UPS come to my house to pick it up. With in a few days I had a new Roomba delived UPS. I found the manufacturers customer support to be extremly helpful. Sure,it was frusturating to have to deal with problems when I just wanted to clean my floors but the manufacturer took care of the problem quickly. I've had no trouble since. It's a great machine. If I stand around and watch it , I think Roomba will never get the room clean the way it spins circles and roams back and forth. Every time I empty the dust bin I'm amazed that all that dirt came off my floor. [...] you need to make sure the dust bin is completly locked in. This is not difficult to do nor is changing the filter. As with any thing new, it's unknown territory at first but after you change it a few times you're familar with the procedure and it's easily accomplished. The first few times of use I had to wind up lamp cords, etc, any thing that the machine would suction up. Once I ran it a few times and had those things out of the way, it became the dream machine. I turn it on, walk out, and return to a job done. I wish I had purchased the model that walked itself back to the charger.

Short lived product

I have to agree with all reviews that say it was marketed prior to working out all the bugs. Mine only lived for 3 months and there is NO customer service from iRobot. The concept is a fantastic one, so much so I was almost willing to try again until I read all the responses here today. This is a costly product for just 3 months of occasional use. I used it a couple times during the week, still using the large vacuum on Saturdays. My intent was to use it for light in between clean ups but it didn't cut it at all.

This is an excellent product. My hardwood floors have never been cleaner. It does exactly what it is advertised to do. I have never been happier with a purchase. It will clean low pile carpet, but you shouldn't expect it to clean as "deep" as a regular vac. But for hard surface floors it is PERFECT. And not too bad on the low pile carpet and area rugs either. I LOVE IT!

This vacume does work somewhat, not worth the money. If you REALLY don't or can't vacume this somewhat works, but you can not have a lot of furniture OR no rugs with tassels, or ANYTHING like that. If you do it grabs it and jams. I gave it two stars because it does pick up, but it is NOT worth the trouble, and I imagine this "little toy" will phase out quickly. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!! I gave it as a gift and my mom tried to return it! Guess what? They told her SORRY that item has been clearanced. I can't scream this loud enough DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!

I saw the iRobot on some news show or infomercial and let me tell you, they sold it like it was the next flying car. When it works, the little red sucker is great, when it doesn't you get ibot rage and wonder if it would have been cheaper to higher a housekeeper once a week to clean your floors for you. At least you know your housekeeper won't need replacement parts or an ample amount of filter and bateries to keep her going. Buy at your own risk, if you have the kind of money to keep replacing it then maybe you should keep your eye out for a "keeper" a housekeeper that is!

I got this vaccuum thinking it would be a great time and back saver, but after just a few uses the filter needed changing (which was a pain in the butt). Then, jut three months later, I had it running while I was giving my son a bath. I started hearing a strange noise coming from the living room so I grabbed the baby and we found the Roomba literally in pieces on the floor! It just fell apart! What a joke. I can't believe how much this product cost for just a few months use.

I love this vacuum cleaner. I can't wait to purchase the Scooba for my mopping needs. I have had this vacuum for more than six months and it is still going strong. It cleans wonderfully, better than most conventional vacuums. It is so convenient, especially since I have an 8 month old baby to take care of. I have been recommending it to all my friends and they love it too. I have not had any problems with this vacuum at all. I think every household in America should have a Roomba. It is one of the smartest purchases you can make for cleaning.

Since April 2005, we are currently on our 3rd Roomba vac (two models 4105 & model 4210). The first and third, we bought. The second was a replacement from iRobot. This product should not be out on the market and sold at the astronomical price it retails at. We feel this product has been prematurely introduced to the consumer without all the bugs being worked out, and since all three of our Roomba models have not lasted more than 2-3 months, we feel as the consumer, we are being cheated. My husband spends more time troubleshooting the vac to get it to work properly. It works great for about 2 months, then the problems begin, i.e. only going in circles; after charging 24+ hours, it'll only work for 2 minutes then quits as the power light turns from bright green to red, we've had stripped gears, defective batteries, etc, etc. As much as we love the concept and we've given the Roomba 3 chances, we are extremely disappointed in the product and will never buy another one again. Point being, this product should be recalled until it is reliable to the consumer.
